About this tour
Mikumi National Park is Tanzania's fourth-largest national park and is located just a few hours' drive from Dar es Salaam. The park is part of the larger Selous ecosystem and offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities without the crowds found in some of Tanzania's more famous parks.
During your safari, you'll have the chance to observe:
- Large herds of elephants, buffaloes, and zebras roaming the open plains
- Predators including lions, leopards, and wild dogs hunting or resting in the shade
- Giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, and various antelope species grazing on the savannah
- Hippos and crocodiles in the Mkata River and water holes
- Numerous bird species (over 400 have been recorded in the park) including colorful rollers, kingfishers, and birds of prey
- Beautiful landscapes from open grasslands to woodlands and mountains in the distance
The park's open Miombo woodlands and grassy plains make wildlife spotting relatively easy, and the backdrop of the Uluguru Mountains provides stunning scenery for your safari adventure. The Mkata River floodplain is particularly rich in wildlife and offers excellent photographic opportunities.
This tour can be customized from 1-3 days depending on your preferences, with accommodation options ranging from basic camping to luxury lodges within or near the park. Our experienced guides know the best locations for wildlife viewing and will ensure you have the best possible safari experience.
Mikumi is accessible year-round, though the dry season (June to October) offers the best wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources. The green season (November to May) brings lush landscapes and newborn animals, with fewer tourists and lower rates.
